THE WATERING HOLE is our camp at the Walnut Valley Acoustic Music Festival, held every year in Winfield, KS, on the third weekend in September. We have been camping in approximately the same place for 23 years now, and have come to look at our spot in the Pecan Grove as a home away from home for music, good fellowship, freedom, and lots of fun and good times for the duration of the Festival. For many years, our camp had no name, but in 2003 we finally agreed to be called The Watering Hole (thanks, Tim and Paul).

People have come and gone but the basic group has remained. Some of our members have been here almost every year of the whole 36; others of us are relatively new. All of us understand that Winfield is a unique experience and one we would not want to have missed. Hope you all enjoy the Photo Albums. If anyone has a snapshot they'd like to add, send or bring it to Lin and John and we'll include it here.

THE WATERHOLE GANG : We have learned that choosing a name for our group has opened our camp to much gossip of a most unkind sort. A local newspaper has, in fact, printed several editorials dealing with the "Waterhole Gang," and some authorities appear to be getting involved. We give our assurance that we're not really all that bad, and we do bathe occasionally! HONEST!

2001. If we had to be somewhere when they destroyed the Twin Towers, there was no better place than Winfield. : 9/11 hit everyone very hard. A tour of the campground that evening had many people playing hymns and patriotic songs. Lots of flags appeared as soon as people could find a way to put them up. Neighbors everywhere were talking and reassuring each other. Winfield never seemed more like one big family!
